Default IPhone 3G Guide

Complete IPhone 3G Guide
As you may have noticed another member of Sythe has previously made a guide according to the Apple's first attempt at the IPhone Version 1.0. This guide will be far more extensive, have many more pictures, and break down virtually every aspect of the IPhone 3G. The phone had multiple problems, including the fact that it was highly overpriced. So, what does Apple do? They make a better, faster and more durable phone, the IPhone 3G. The new IPhone 3G is considered one of the revolutionary phones of it's times and has been the reason of many companies to create so called "copy cats".

Guide Contents:
1. The Home Screen
2. Phone
3. Mail
4. Safari
5. IPod
6. SMS
7. Maps with GPS
8. ITunes
9. Applications Store
10. Calendar
11. YouTube
12. Photos
13. Camera
14. Stocks
15. Weather
16. Notes
17. Calculator
18. Settings
19. Contacts
20. Clock

1. The Home Screen:
Your home screen is the area which you will be taken to if you click the circular button with the small square in it at the bottom of your IPhone. The home screen is where you will find all of your applications and all the applications which I mentioned in the "Guide Contents". This is somewhat like the main screen of your computer or cell phone. No matter what you are doing on your IPhone, by hitting the "Home Button" you will be taken directly to the Home Screen. The other great feature is that you can have multiple home screens. Say your more of an organized person you can have your phone, internet, and contacts on one home screen and have your weather, stocks and camera on another home screen. All you have to do is simply slide the screen over to the next. In the upper right corner of your IPhone you will see the service/internet connection which you have at your current location. In the middle of the top of your IPhone you will see the time listed. Finally, to the right at the top of your IPhone you will see the battery power which you have remaining.

2. Phone:
This is basically the phone section of the phone, no pun intended. The phone has 'missed' calls and 'all calls. It lists the times of which the call was received and there are multiple buttons at the bottom of this section. (1)The first section is favorites. In this section you can bookmark your favorite contacts, otherwise the ones which you associate with the most. Personally, I don't use this section, but I suppose it is useful if you have a surplus of contacts. (2)The next section is recents. This is where you can locate all your calls and your missed calls. (3)Contacts are the next section, but I will save them because they are going to have their own topic further down. (4)The next section is the keypad. The keypad is where you will dial in a number if you don't have them listed as a contact, pretty self-explanatory. (5)The final section at the bottom is voicemail. Voicemail is where you will find any messages which have been left on your phone from incoming callers. You have the option to check your deleted voicemail days after you have deleted them. Personally, this is one of my favorite options because I might accidentally delete a voicemail I needed or I might want to go back and double check something such as a date which they person left.

(1) (2) (3)
(4) (5)

3. Mail:
From this section you will have your mail sent directly to your IPhone. It's basically the same thing as anywhere else you would get your mail such as www.aol.com, www.aim.com or even on AOL. In this guide you will later find out how to set up the email account for your mail application on your IPhone, this can be found in the "Settings" portion of the guide. (1)From here you can delete unwanted email and (2)you can also write mails to your desired person. At the bottom it lists the date which your mail was last updated so if you want to see your more recent mail your to have to hit the refresh button in the bottom left corner of your IPhone.

(1) (2)

4. Safari:
For any of you that have a MacBook this is basically your internet browser. (1)You can do multiple things here beginning with Google searching in the upper left hand corner. This Google browser will always be here and you will be able to search whatever you desire. The next section is the bookmarks section, here you can save your favorite Website and certain Website pages and you can click the specified link here to go directly to it, perhaps one of your favorite threads on Sythe. If you hit the small plus button at the bottom middle of your IPhone you will be able to open new browsers. (2)If you have a site which you want to stay on but you also want to open another browser for something else such as www.Apple.com, then you can have multiple pages open without having to close one or the other. Safari is probably the most useful thing the IPhone has, when I don't know what a homework assignment is I can search it up on the school Website with no problems at all, due to the high speed internet connection which the 3G network provides.

(1) (2)

5. IPod:
The IPod serves the same function as any normal IPod Video which you may purchase. With the IPhone you will not need to waste the money on your phone and on a $300 IPod. (1)The first section is playlists. Any playlist which you create in your ITunes located on your computer. (2)The next section is artists. In this section you can categorize your music according to who the artist of the song is. (3)The next topic by which you can categorize your music, is that by the song name. Here you can find a song by the title of it. (4)After songs you will find videos, here is where any video which you put onto your ITunes will go. (5)Lastly you will find the more section. Inside of this section you can categorize songs by things such as albums, composers and genres.

(1) (2) (3)
(4) (5)

6. SMS (Text Messaging):
SMS which is also known as 'Short message service' is your text messaging section. (1)Inside of this section you can look at all your text messages and write new ones, and I'm almost positive all of us know how to text. (2)You can also go into a text message and write to one of your contacts or any number you desire. The keyboard can be shown two ways; sideways and normal. To have the keyboard appear sideways you must simply tilt the phone 45 degrees to the right and the larger keypad will appear.

(1) (2)

7. Maps With GPS:
This portion of your IPhone is basically where you can enter GPS requests. (1)In the search portion of the maps you can search any address and see exactly where it is located. (2)To get directions to this address you will have to click the directions portion at the bottom. Once you have decided your location you must enter your staring location. Once you have done so, hit the route button in the bottom right hand corner. Once you have done this, you can hit the start button in the top right corner and the (3)directions will begin and they are pretty simple to follow. The small target button in the bottom left hand corner it will should a small circle which represents you. This application can also show you train times to your destination and how long it will take you to walk at a constant pace. (4)If you hit the small icon in the bottom left hand corner you will be able to see a more detailed picture and see exactly what the traffic is like on your route to your destination.

(1) (2) (3)
(4)

8. ITunes:
ITunes is basically the same thing which you will find on your computer, just crouched into a smaller version so you can use it on your IPhone. (1)The first section of ITunes is the featured section. Inside of the featured section you will be able to view the featured songs, movies and podcasts of the day/week/month. (2)Following the featured section is the top tens section. This is basically like the top 100 on ITunes just enclosed into 10, this way you can check the top songs of the day and week on the go. (3)Next we have the search section. If you ever wanted to search for a song which you had stuck in your head or a song you wanted to find on ITunes you will be able to type it in the search bar and hopefully locate it. (4)Now we have the new podcasts. Podcasts are small informative shows such as ESPN: Mayne Street. These are great little clips which you can download. (5)Lastly, there is the downloads section. Any song that you have attempted to purchase and download via your IPhone will show up here. You can also follow the progress of your downloads.

(1) (2) (3)
(4) (5)

9. Applications Store:
This is where you can buy anything from games to an application which can measure your BAC. (1)Firstly, we have the featured section. This is basically the same as the ITunes but it's for games and applications. This will show you what's hot in the IPhone applications store. (2)Now there is the categories section. If you want to define your search a bit better you can come into this portion and fine tune your search. This is just a little perk which should make life easier for yourself. (3)The top 25 section is where you will be able to see the top 25 applications which people who own the IPhone have purchased, you can always find some of the best applications here. (4)The search section is the same as above, it basically allows you to search for an application which your friend might have mentioned to you or just an application you think the IPhone might have. (5)The updates portion is where you will be alerted of any update which is available for any application which you may have downloaded.

(1) (2) (3)
(4) (5)

10. Calendar:
The calendar is the same as any calendar which you may have lying around your house. In the calendar application you will be able to add events to your calendar this way you don't forget your important engagements. This is almost like an agenda book which can be really useful for anyone that attends any type of school

11. YouTube:
YouTube is basically the same as the YouTube which you can access by visiting www.Youtube.com. (1)Featured is where they feature certain videos which have many views or a video that has just been added to YouTube. (2)Next is the most viewed section, in this section we have all of the most viewed videos which have been posted on YouTube. (3)Bookmarks is the same as all the previous bookmarks I have mentioned, it's just a place where you can save your favorite videos. (4)Search is where you will be able to search any video you have heard of and close related videos of the one you chose will also appear. (5)Lastly, there is the more section. Here you can find the most recent videos, the top rated videos and your history.

(1) (2) (3)
(4) (5)

12. Photos:
Inside of the photos section is where your photos which you have taken, via the camera application, will be stored. The storage is great and depending upon which version you got, the 8G or 16G, you will still have plenty of storage space. You can send these photos via email on your IPhone just by clicking the small icon in the bottom left corner once you have selected a photo. You can also upload these photos to your computer.

13. Camera:
This is pretty self explanatory, but if your a bit slow or don't know the English language, I will explain it. This is where you can take photos which will be placed into your photos application on your IPhone. Your IPhone can hold many photos, so don't really worry about storage. If you click the oval with a camera in it at the middle bottom of this application you will have successfully taken a photo.

14. Stocks:
Stocks, in my eyes is not a useless application at all. When your in government class and you want to impress your teach provide him with some numbers and statistics from the stock market. The most popular market is the Dow Jones, which is the one listed above. The economy is doing horribly right now and this application is one which is used daily to refer to economic success/failure.

15. Weather:
The weather is something which we all want to know, almost every day. I find this to be a great application for multiple reason. Firstly, it provides a 6 day forecast which is very useful in planning your events for the week. Another thing which I find useful is that it tells you the high and low temperatures. By pushing the small "i" at the bottom right corner of this application you will be able to add different areas so you can know the weather where you are and where you will be.

16. Notes:
Ever been asked to write a number down? Yeah, we all have. This is great because if you want to write something down while on the go that you don't want to forget you will be able to do so here. You can also email this note to your friends if it's something they would want to read. Also it's great because you can use this application which still on the phone. So you can go to the application, while on the phone, and write down what that person is dictating to you. Lastly the application is useful due to the fact that you'll never need to pull out a pen to write something down, and not be embarrassed if you don't have a writing tool.

17. Calculator:
The calculator is a tool which can be used at all times. (1)You can use the calculator as a normal calendar which can preform simple functions or you (2)can simply tilt the phone to the right (so it's sideways) and it will turn into a scientific calculator. This is great because it can preform all the same functions as a Texas Instruments scientific calculator, so you won't need to waste an extra $30 on a calculator.

(1) (2)

18. Settings:
In settings you will be able to edit the smaller details of your IPhone such as brightness, your mailing contacts which I mentioned above, and the settings which your internet has. To change your email simply go to the mail portion down the page and click it you will be able to add email accounts and edit the ones which you have previously created. Also you will be able to edit the preferences which your IPhone mail has.

19. Contacts:
Contacts is where you will be able to find everyone which you have listed in your phone book. By clicking one of your friends name's you will have multiple options and you will be able to call, text or add them to your favorites. The great thing about the contacts section is that you can add them easily and all your contacts are listed alphabetically making it very easy for you to locate a contact.

20. Clock:
The clock has multiple options which you may want to use. (1)Wold clock is where you can see the time of any area of the world. This is useful because you can check the times of where you will be headed and perhaps the time zone of a friend. (2)Next is the alarms section. Here you will be able to set multiple alarms simply by touching the plus button. The alarms are great and have some seriously annoying sounds which are bound to awake you. (3)The stopwatch is good for timing things such as running laps at the gym or how long your friend can hold his breath. Start and stop, that's pretty much how it works. (4)The timer is useful for a lot of things and it's easy to setup. I suppose you could use it for cooking or reminders of what your supposed to be doing in the near future.

No such thing as too much dedication. ;)

You can't make the txt messaging keypad bigger on the Iphone 8GB but they have it for the 3G? Total BS.

Nice guide though, bet you don't know how to open new tabs with a link you click on though
