1.0 [Introduction]
Welcome, always wanted to set up a quick and easy way for your friends or fellow gamers to verbally talk with ease, well I'm here to show you how. Currently the only limitation is you are limited to a 8 slot server without purchasing the pro version, also if you have a slow internet connection this may be a bad idea for you.
2.0 [Downloading]
Ok well obviously we must first get the software needed to set up your own server.
All downloads can be found on the official Ventrilo website here:
http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Download the Client and the Server installs for your Operating System.
Install the software and continue on to the next section.
[*]3.0 [Installation]
Well first we have to set up your servers INI file or Settings file.
To quickly open this file just goto Start>All Programs>VentSrv>Edit INI File
A text file should now open with alot of values, most of these we dont have to worry about.
First we want to give the server a name we do this by finding the "Name=" line and writing the name you want after that.
Then we will want a Admin password so other people cant hijack your sever. To set one write your password after the "AdminPassword=" line.
This step is optional, you can add a access password that users need to know to get in. This can be changed by writing the password after the "Password=" line.
After all this your text document should look something like this:
Well there you go your server has been set up now to let yourself and others connect to it.
4.0 [Connecting]
First you need to know your IP address so that others can connect to your server. You can find this through a variety of methods, the easiest is using a website that can detect your IP. Ventrilo has a page on their website that will tell you this.
http://www.ventrilo.com/myip.php
Ok once you know your IP so that others can connect to your server start up your server. Do this by going to Start>All Programs>VentSrv>Ventrilo Server
This should open up a DOS program that looks something like this.
Now open up your Ventrilo client and create a user profile and enter the server info and click connect. If you did it right you should see something like this.
And there you go your own personal Ventrilo Server. Enjoy!
