Guarenteed Content Poll 1 - Re-branding
We are going to be making several significant overhauls to RSF. To get the community involved, we're taking a page out of Jagex's book. Guaranteed Content Polls. Now the users get to influence significant decisions and the path we will take with RSF. This brings us to our current issue. Re-branding.
Our current domain name is easy to remember and catchy, but any search engine completely ignores it. For optimization reasons, we have been considering updating to a new domain.
RuneScapeForums.Net
Pros:
VERY Search engine friendly
Easy to indentify
In the long run, our pagerank will probably be better
Cons:
All old links in Google will redirect to the new domain's homepage
We'll lose our current page rank of 2, and many backlinks.
We may temporarily lose some traffic from new users. However, it is the core members of this site who really make it great!
The name is a bit longer.
If this change goes through, we may also change our name to RF, as it's shorter and more professional.
Either way, both of these domains will now redirect to the forums.
The future is in your hands. This poll will be open until October 31st. The update will take place within two weeks from the time of closing. The winner must have a margin of at least 20% (3 vote minimum margin), or we will leave it as is.

Well, in my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons in this situation. I say change it.

Why does have to MSN? Too secreto for the forums? If you don't want people to find out about something, post it at RSF.

Come on, lets be frank and list all the pros and advantages so people can at least decide, you have just liked 2 vs 1... Jansen im not having a good at you lol, just speaking my mind, because i know who was behind that announcement :P
Pros:
1. Better results on google searchs
2. Easy to indentify
3. Hmm i cant think of anything else... except the google searchs...
Cons:
1. RSF is established site and recongised name. People hear RSF and know its us, people hear RF, they will think... hmm another new cheating site starting.
2. Less hits as people will be using rsforums.org to enter the site, since they dont know runescapeforums.net
3. The length of runescapeforums.net is huge
4. Lose all current rankings in google (PR2) plus over 5000+ on yahoo & altavista
lol @ matt /inside joke
Personally from that list, you all know i would keep RSF, just because of my list mainly because... its a good name, and secondly everyone knows it. The only reason you want to use runescapeforums.net is for the google searchs (for PR) which i know, but why not direct it to rsforums.org? That way it will still pick it up as runescapeforums.net in google searchs, and also if that PR gets high and you decide to move to that then at least you guys can become RF not just turn from RSF to RF in less than a month. I personally think moving RSF > RF in less than a month will = fail imo.

I say you keep it the same.. Without Nate being Admin, I don't think you should change the site too much. It will put you guys under too much work and shit.

Sorry, ive seen how my comment has come across, seriously i think runescapeforums.net would be a good idea, the part im disagreeing with is the changing of the name in less than a month, your killing RSF by doing that... i mean you need to get RF known like RSF then move...

Our workload isn't really a factor. We are dedicated to keeping this place moving, no matter what it takes (almost... we aren't millionaires (yet))!

The change of the actual name (RSF to RF) would definately not happen right away. This poll is more geared towards the domain hop.

I believe that somehow, if we change it, it may attract more scammers. But, I also think changing it will help in the long run, so I say change it, even though I accidentally voted don't change it.
