Greetings,
As many of you are well aware over the past
two days our server performance has been slightly slower than usual, or completely down for small periods of time. This is due to
denial-of-service attacks.
What are we doing to stop it?
We are currently banning IP addresses permanently, off the entire server which have a large number of connections to server. In doing so, we are well aware that some are legitimate connections and we apologize if you are, or were banned in error.
I've been banned in error, what can I do?
You can either private message Nathan or alternatively send an email to
nathan@rsforums.org with the following information;
- Full Name
- Email Address*
- Internet Service Provider (ISP)
- IP Address (obtained from WhatIsMyIP.com)
- Forum Username
Your email address must be a valid address provided by your ISP. We will not clear you if your email address is @hotmail.com, @gmail.com or any other free email service. Saying this, what information you provide is completely confidential and we will not release this information to any 3rd party other than your internet service provider.
The website is down, what do I do?
If you are having trouble getting onto the web site, or it's down - please don't keep trying every few minutes. Close any current connections of RSF, and try again later. This way, less chance of us banning legitimate connections.
Will there be any data loss, or long periods of downtime?
This is highly unlikely. However, if the attacks continue we will close down RSF for 12 - 32 hours while we take action against the attackers. Of course, if this does happen we will have a detailed message outlining what is going on.
All information you provide us with is completely confidential. Saying that, we will not list any of the IP addresses that were banned.
Thanks,
Management Team
